UT Memphis
Emergency Medicine

Alumni Website

Welcome to the residency program website from the alumni. We made this page to show why we loved our program and to give a great representation of what Emergency Medicine life in Memphis is all about.

In 2014, Memphis opened its doors to the first class of Emergency Medicine residents. Since that time, we have been leaving our mark on the medical landscape that was desperately in need of our unique skillset.

Situated at the corners of three states, we are the safety net for millions of families and are making a difference in the lives of thousands of patients every year.

This program has exceeded my expectations…

This program exceeded my expectations. It had the perfect balance of supervision and autonomy for me. The ED attendings and staff were all friendly and make for a welcoming environment. I have no doubts about my clinical skills and training. I have been able to accomplish what I wanted, as well as being well prepared for a critical care fellowship position at a prestigious university.

I chose this program because of the high acuity…

I chose this program because of the high acuity and volume of patients, that interns really do get first pass at all procedures, and program directors focused on real world learning opportunities  and that truly care about the well being of their residents.

High acuity medical complexity in an underserved area…

I chose to come to the UTHSC Emergency Medicine program because I was looking for a program with high acuity medical complexity in an underserved area. Thankfully, I also found a program with some of the most supportive and fun-loving attendings and residents.

High-acuity patients and the unique pathology of Memphis…

The combination of high-acuity patients and the unique pathology of Memphis provides a training opportunity that, I believe, is unrivaled by any other program.  In this setting, the staff we learned from on a daily basis takes that already incredible opportunity and magnifies it, teaching compassionate and effective care with an early-responsibility model that has pushed all of us to new heights.  There is truly no limit to the growth potential of each resident at this residency.

I feel like my experience at this residency program is hard to beat…

My story about how I ended up at this program is unique because I couples matched with someone doing Plastic Surgery. When we made our rank lists, I pushed to have this relatively high on our list because I really enjoyed my interview here and I was very impressed with the caliber of resident that I met here.  I feel like my experience at this residency program is hard to beat. I am convinced that we see some of the sickest patients and graduated feeling comfortable with whatever comes our way.

This place has prepared me for anything…

I couldn’t have been more happy to be in Memphis for my training. I chose to come to a newer program instead of going to a more established one and it was the best decision I could have made. Residents have incredible opportunities and they are growing every year. From working in what is likely one of the highest acuity medical centers, to running one of the busiest essentially standalone trauma ERs in the country, it prepared me to handle anything that will comes my way.
